The Worst Design in the Nation!!!

That’s right folks. The license plate for the State of Kentucky was recently deemed “worst in the nation” by a panel of design professionals/reviewers and in an article from Pittsburgh’s Post Gazette.
I have to say that I completely agree. I couldn’t imagine a worse design than this gem. Just look at! And while you’re doing so, good luck trying to hold back that “mini-barf” forcing it’s way up the back of your throat. Sometimes as I’m driving home from work and I have to look at one of those atrocities I’m tempted to slam into the car in front of me in hopes of destroying at least one of these spawns of Satan. Here’s a quote from the article:
“They were caustically unanimous in choosing Kentucky's "Mr. Smiley Face" design, with a grinning cartoon sun in the middle and the motto "It's That Friendly," as the worst plate in America. They would get little argument from the people of Kentucky, who were so disgusted by the design introduced by former Gov. Paul Patton that they demanded and got a new standard plate, which is being issued this month.”
As I read this article I tried to think of how I would respond to this design during a class critique. Here are some of the statements/questions that I know for sure would end up coming out of my mouth:
• Is that really the piece you’re submitting?
• Gradients = Bad
• Do you actually consider your audience to be that ignorant?
• This is everything that’s wrong with designing on a computer!
• The illustration looks as if it should have a signature that reads: “Amy, Age 8” in the bottom right corner.
• Are there any colors that didn’t make the cut in this one?
• Typography…Uuuggghhh! Where do I even begin?
• This might be the assignment that you choose for your “re-do.”
• You still have quite a bit of work ahead of you, sometimes it’s best to just start over
Thanks to Thom for the link.

Ya I PUKE whenever i see these plates. Not only is the gradient really disgusting, but that smiley face! Its so in your face and it just really irritates me. There is another Kentucky plate that is equally as bad....its the one that looks like it was drawn with crayon and it has a smiley face of course and is something about loving kids or whatever. Gross!
Also, most plates kinda blend in with a car to where u dont even see them...this is the compltete opposite.
Hysterical! Are we sure that the agency who pitched this idea didn't throw it in as "the one they'll never pick" for shits and giggles?
That’s a pretty loose use of the word “agency.” I was thinking something closer to “Governor’s niece.”
No blue grass? and "Its' that frendly"?
sad.

In hindsight, I think the rolling green mountains are actually marijuana fields and the "agency" was smoking the ganja when they put this together.
