David Carson Interview…

David Carson who has been called: “Art Director of the Era” by London magazine: Creative Review, is probably most known for his innovative design work in magazines like Raygun and Beach Culture. His book, The End of Print, is now in it’s fifth printing and has sold over 275,000 copies worldwide. That being said, David is also known for making graphic design on his own terms and in his own unique way.
What’s great about this email interview format I’m using is that I’m getting answers that are quite frank from these different individuals. As I have continued to contact more professionals, I mentioned that Erik Spiekermann has already responded to these questions and they could read his responses if they chose to do so before responding themselves.
What follows is word for word David’s response:
tho i havent read it,
i would assume my answers would all be the
exact opposite of erik speakermans.......
: )
david
If you find this entertaining, wait until Monday when I post the Chip Kidd interview.

one thing is for sure:
i can spell David's name, while he obviously doesn't bother to consider that my name is *not* english. German does not have a "ea" diphtong and Spiekermann is spelled thus.
And i would never make assumptions like he does. Prejudice is a very bad advisor, even though that may be the style in DC right now.

Wow...I sense some tension.
Not tension, but i am truly annoyed at this glib statement. Making a sweeping judgement without considering any facts sets a really bad example for students. How can you judge what someone has said without reading it? I don't really care whether David is dyslexic or can simply not be bothered to look spell my name (which would only be bad manners), but jumping to conclusions without even one close look does remind me of a certain attitude prevailing in US politics right now: actions not based on facts, but on beliefs. Arrogance is an attitude problem which doesn't make you many friends and prevents you from finding out what really goes on.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but where did he judge what you had written exactly?
